The Koshas - Five layered body

The Five Koshas

Our body is made of several layers and bodies.  The physical body is the one you see.  The other subtle layers are experienced through breath, yoga, and the environment.

The Physical body is a tangible cover for the self.  The skin is the permanent clothing to protect our physiology, which functions automatically.  The advanced technology enables us to see the interiors of the body and understand the function of the body, but it does not help us to understand the subtle function of the body, such as Chakras, the meridian lines, and the Marma points.   The unseen and sensory body enables us to connect with the intuition, the Chakras, the 11 bodies and the Koshas.

The Koshas are the one element of the function of your physical body.  The knowledge helps to understand the Self.

The Koshas (five layers) are:

The Annamaya Kosha belongs to the physical body. The Physical body is one you can...

Letting go with Love

The consumer society encourages us to surround ourselves with objects and create attachments to those objects.

Attaching our emotions to objects clutters our physical space leading to living an emotionally trapped life.  The cycle does not let us move beyond the emotionally and physically charged space.  It clutters our conscious mind to live the past.

  • Holding on to the past creates pain, prevents growth, and does not fix anything
  • The past becomes the identity, and people are afraid to lose their past identity
  • Letting go also means letting go of people in our life

It is not easy or straightforward.  The process can be painful and long, oddly enough sometimes all some people know is pain and it is comfortable.  Self-compassion and love for yourself are usually starting points.  By letting go we are letting go of our old self to create a new self.  Allowing the layers of the old self to peel off gently, helps with the creation of the new self. Just the...

Living above Cause and Effect

Cause and effect are intrinsically connected to human beings.   Whatever we think will influence us and everyone around us (family, friends, environment).  The immediate example is how our environment is affected by our daily habits and use of materials.

So, you may think is it possible to elevate the self from cause and effect?

Yes, but to elevate ourselves, we need to work on the self, our auric field, strengthen our electromagnetic field and raise our energy beyond the physical plane of body and mind.

Taking responsibility in our life for what is working and not working and becoming the creator of life is the real cause, but when we play the blame game, we are giving away our power and allowing others to affect our life.

We are masters of our destiny:

  • We choose how to interpret our experiences.
  • We choose to experience emotions both consciously and unconsciously at any one moment in time.
  • We choose to behave by how we Think about the world, events and ourselves.

Change Yourself

The last two years have been strange – we have had to forget about our plans to adopt new ways of living and surviving.

Do you make plans for 3, 6, 12 months and work through them or do you just go along with the flow?

We usually begin thinking about the changes we want to make from September to December and make a long list. However, by the middle of February, we have either forgotten about our intentions or other life events have taken over.  This makes us feel like a failure

In our ‘structured’ life we forget about how our energetic body gets left behind to support our family, friends and go to work to pay bills and mortgage. We are trained to live outside our body, responding to events and emotions on demand.   We don’t know how to live in our bodies and feel the energy within ourselves.

The pandemic has awakened our energetic body to make us aware of what is important to us and how to look for our authentic selves.

What is your...

Walking Yoga

What images does the word Yoga conjure up in your head?
  • Somewhere you can develop flexibility
  • Somewhere you can relax and go to sleep
  • A slow-paced class to practice different types of postures
  • A fast class where you practice 40 postures in one hour and sweat

One of the main reasons for joining a Yoga class is to develop flexibility and learn to relax. Yoga is more than postures, it is a connection between the body and spirit through breath

Yoga is both beautiful and generous enough to accommodate all types of bodies and shapes.  Students with poor body image are reluctant to attend yoga classes. They first have to get past the influx of images in the media of lean bodies and expensive sportswear.

A teachers' role is to welcome EveryBody in the class. Yoga is more than a simple sequence of postures. It is about helping a person find themselves to lose their fear and develop confidence.

My experience has been to...

The benefits of Mantra Meditation

Mantra Meditation involves reciting or chanting a sound or phrase repeatedly.  The chanting or reciting connects massages the brain when the tongue touches the palate and massages the acupressure points.  These acupressure points connect the nerves to the brain.

Kirtan Kriya is one of the many meditations in which one chants, presses finger and thumb tips in sequence to make the connection to the brain and the heart.

Regular practice helps to:

  • improve brain health
  • reduce blood pressure
  • reduce anxiety
  • improves sleep quality
  • enable deep healing
  • reduces inflammation
  • helps focus mind
  • enhanced self-esteem and self-worth
  • improves mood
  • suitable for all ages

The technique is easy to learn and practice and can be practiced in a group or own your own and family members.

The words SAA TAA NAA MAA are easy to say.  To help you start, use a recording to become familiar.  There are many ways to practice this simple and highly effective Mantra Meditation e.g.

  • chanting...

Extend your Energy Field

The five elements - (earth, water, fire,  either and air) are present in our body. These elements change with the external environment, e.g, in autumn and spring, our body begins to change to welcome summer and winter.

The elements are waves of frequency. These waves of energy create balance and imbalance in our body - physical, mental, and emotional.

The Marma points in the body activate the meridian pathways to enable the energy to travel around the body. The flow of energy is interrupted when Marma points are blocked, which manifests as physical and emotional symptoms.

Meditation and Yoga connect mind and body to extend the energy field to project out. The energy field can be felt by animals and some humans, thus creating a calming effect in the immediate surrounding.

Regular practice helps to calm the heart, mind, and emotions. Additionally, it clears the mind to reduce unnecessary traumas and drama in life.

Unfriend your Pain

Pain is a message to your brain from your body, telling you that there is an issue in the body that needs your attention.

Pain is a disconnection from your emotions.

Has your back been complaining during the lockdown? More and more people find that they have painful back, stiffness around the body by sitting in the chair which is not designed for sitting for long periods.

Our spine and breath support us throughout our life, but how many of us do not think about our back and the connection to our breath?

I have been teaching yoga for over 11 years and like a lot of people, have suffered from different types of back pain, stress on the shoulders, neck pain, upper back pain, lower back pain and, whole body aching. Whenever I visited my doctor, I was given painkillers and asked to move more. I didn't want to take painkillers and I was active. The pain continued even though I was active, that's when I realised that the pain was more than physical pain....
